 She was brave enough to 'tag' me and I was rude enough to refuse to do it  Apparently male jackasses (Black-footed Penguins) are bigger than females, so the one on the right of the pic must be the dude. These African penguins are monagamous, so I believe this is a lifelong pair. Shweeeet.   |

There are only a few places in Africa where these penguins live and that place (Boulders Beach) is one of them. So no, they are not seen a lot. In fact I think they are still an endangered species. A few years ago there was a huge disaster (oil spill) and there was the biggest rescue mission ever to save a whole lot of them. So they are special.
